Running Galaxy in a production environment

Use a clean environment
wget http://bitbucket.org/ianb/virtualenv/raw/tip/virtualenv.py
python virtualenv.py –no-site-packages galaxy_env

Disable the developer settings
in universe_wsgi.ini:
debug = False
use_interactive = False

Switch to a database server (postgres suggested)

sudo apt-get install postgresql

follow the suggestion here to create galaxy database

modify universe_wsgi.ini:

postgres:///galaxy?host=/var/run/postgresql

Using a proxy server
